    Current stage

    The PAC has provided its final report from the latest public inquiry on the scheme to the Department and this has been considered in detail by the project team.

    Current position

    It is anticipated that the Minister will make an announcement on progression of the scheme imminently. This could allow construction work to commence in early 2025.

    Scheme 2 - A0029 Cookstown By-Pass

    Location

    Cookstown

    Scheme description

    Provision of a new bypass to the east of Cookstown extending from the A0029 Dungannon Road to the A0029 Moneymore Road. The scheme also includes for improvements along the Sandholes Link Road between Drum Road and Sandholes Road. A footway/cycleway will be provided along its entire length connecting into the existing network.

    Current stage

    The draft Statutory Orders and Environmental Impact Assessment Report was published on 03 April 2024. A public information event was held on 16 April 2024 which provided an opportunity to engage with the Department and its Engineering Consultant. The consultation period has now ended and the responses are currently being reviewed by the Department. A Public Enquiry has been granted and will be held at the Glenavon Hotel from 22 October 2024 until 25 October 2024.

    Current position

    The timescales for progressing to procurement and construction will depend on a number of factors including the successful completion of statutory procedures and the availability of funding in future years.
