    Road Safety – Driving, Vehicle and Road Safety Policy Division

    Road Safety – Driving, Vehicle and Road Safety Policy Division aims to promote improved road safety and deliver better regulation of the transport sector. The Division is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Northern Ireland Road Safety Strategy. In addition, the Division has a role in promoting the use of alternative and sustainable modes of transport such as: walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing.

    Tachograph retrofit requirements for vehicles used on international journeys

    A requirement for the replacement of analogue and digital tachographs with smart tachograph 2’s (“the retrofit requirement”) for UK and EU-based goods vehicles engaged in international transports comes into effect on 31 December 2024 further to the UK/EU Trade and Co-operation Agreement.
