Oil Leaks

Information 

This inspection applies to all vehicles. 

Method Of Inspection 

Check vehicle for oil from any assembly to the surface on which the vehicle is standing. 

Note:  If necessary the engine may be run at tick-over speed to confirm the existence of an oil leak.

Note:   This also applies to hydraulic oil leaking from pipes and reservoirs on tippers and similar equipment, such as ancillary engines. 

Note: Temporary containers provided to prevent leaks reaching the road surface are not acceptable. 

Containers provided to prevent the load leaking onto the road (e.g., drip tray for feed pipes on tankers) do not come within the scope of this note.

	Reason For Rejection	Deficiency Category
1	Slight oil leak	MINOR
2	An oil leak from any assembly which deposits oil on the ground at a rate of a 75 mm diameter pool in 5 minutes, or a number of leaks which collectively would deposit oil at the same rate	MAJOR
