Why are you processing my personal information?
- DVA Driver & Vehicle Testing booking services processes your information to facilitate the booking, administration and delivery of practical driving tests and vehicle inspection tests and activities in Northern Ireland.
- The legislative basis for the processing of personal information is primarily the Road Traffic (NI) Order 1981 for Driver Testing and the Road Traffic (NI) Order 1995 for Vehicle Testing. (Other legislation related to Driver & Vehicle Testing is available on request to DVA).
What categories of personal data are you processing?
The information processed is collected from you and contains the Following:
- Personal information: Name, Address, Driver Licence Number, Theory test, Signature, notification address, payee address, contact telephone number, email address, driving test result/s, declarations;
- Special Category – Details of any disabilities
Where do you get my personal data from?
Your personal information is either collected, from your completed application form, by telephone or online booking and on admission to take the test and following completion of the test.
We will use the information provided by you to enable us to process your application to book a practical driving test or vehicle inspection test, to admit you to take your practical driving test or submit your vehicle for testing test and to issue you with your test result. The legal basis for processing your personal data is Article 6 (1) (e) of the General Data Protection Regulations whereby the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller and in accordance with the Road Traffic (NI) Order 1981 and 1995.
- The vehicle and practical driving test booking system is populated with data transferred from the DVA’S Driver Licensing System IT system and the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Vehicle System Software (VSS) application.
- Applicants booking a vehicle inspection test or practical driving test provided by application form, telephone or via the online booking system. This information is verified against the data held on the vehicle and practical test booking system.
Do you share my personal data with anyone else?
- We may share your personal data with enforcement agencies, for example with HRMC or other agencies with investigative powers, for the prevention or detection of crime.
- We share practical driving test and vehicle test data with:
- The PSNI, for the purposes of the prevention, investigation or prosecution of road traffic related offences.
- With the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunal Service (NICTS) for the prosecution of road traffic related offences.
- With the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency in GB to provide information to enable the processing of applications for a Driver Qualification Card.
- With the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) to provide information to enable the processing of applications for some vehicle tests and to facilitate the processing of vehicle tax applications.
- With the Department of Finance’s Account NI to process manual refunds.
How long do you keep my personal data?
Data transferred from the driving record is kept until the individual is no longer able to drive / or until the Agency receives notification that the driver is deceased. Data transferred from the DVLA, Vehicle System Software (VSS) application is kept until the corresponding vehicle is destroyed. Information in relation to specialist tests are held for 13 months and some other technical paperwork is held until the corresponding vehicle is destroyed.
What rights do I have?
- You have the right to obtain confirmation that your data is being processed, and access to your personal data
- You are entitled to have personal data rectified if it is inaccurate or incomplete
- You have the right to object to the processing.
