    Date published: 22 July 2025

Infrastructure Minister, Liz Kimmins, has announced that a £430k resurfacing scheme on Old Dundonald Road, Belfast, will commence on Friday 25 July 2025.

The 0.6 km scheme will involve carriageway resurfacing on Old Dundonald Road, from the roundabout at Dundonald Ice Bowl to the Kings Road at Granton Park.

    Minister Kimmins said:

“This substantial investment in  Dundonald demonstrates my continued commitment to maintaining and enhancing our road infrastructure. The improvements will deliver significant benefits for local residents and road users and  I would like to thank residents, businesses and commuters for their understanding while these essential works are delivered.”

To facilitate the scheme it will be necessary to implement a full road closure on the Old Dundonald Road over two weekends as follows:

    • From 8 pm on Friday 25 July until 6am on Monday  28 July
    • From 8 pm on Friday 1 August until 6am on Monday 4 August

A signed diversion route will be in place during the full weekend closures, with traffic redirected via Knock Road – Upper Newtownards Road – East Link Road.

Lane closures will then be in operation to complete the scheme which is expected to be finished by the 10th of August 2025.

The Department has carefully programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to the public and local businesses, however road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Closures and completion of the scheme are subject to favourable weather conditions however the Department will keep the public informed of any changes via the Trafficwatchni website.
