Kimmins announces £250,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on A27 Tandragee Road Roundabout, Newry

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced a £250,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the A27 Tandragee Road Roundabout, Newry which will commence on Sunday 30 August 2026.
The resurfacing scheme will involve the asphalt resurfacing of the Tandragee Road Roundabout & side roads adjacent to the roundabout extending between Shepherds Way Roundabout to Springhill Rd.
The Infrastructure Minister said:
“This is a substantial investment for the Newry area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users . The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Newry area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 11 September 2026. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”
To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement over-night road closures on Sunday 30 August, 6.00 pm - 6.00 am and Monday 31 August to Friday 11 September 2026, 8.00 pm to 6.00 am each night.
Diversion routes will be signed as follows
Diversion 1: A1 Newry by-pass, A28 Armagh Road, B2 Ballyvally Road, A28 Gosford Road, B114 Tannyoky Road, B114 Meeting Street, A27 Chapel Street, A27 Church Street, A27 Newry Road, A27 Tandragee Road, A1 Tandragee Road.
Diversion 2: A27 Tandragee Road, U5160 Shepherds Way, A1 Carnbane Way, A1 Armagh Road, A28 Armagh Road
The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday 11 September 2026, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
