    Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced a £265,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the A27 Shepherds Way Roundabout and Shepherds Way, Newry which will commence on Sunday 30 August 2026. The resurfacing scheme will involve the asphalt resurfacing of the complete Shepherds Way Roundabout and Shepherds Way Link to A27 Tandragee Rd Roundabout.

    The Infrastructure Minister said:

    “This is a substantial investment for the  Newry area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users . The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Newry area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 11 September 2026.  I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

    To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement a daytime closure along Shepherds Way on Sunday 30 August, 7.00 am to 7.00 pm and over-night road closures from Sunday 30 August to Friday 11 September 2026, 8.00 pm to 6.00 am each night.

    Diversion routes will be signed as follows:

    Shepherds Way Link Road – Diversion

    A1 Newry by-pass, A28 Armagh Road, A1 Armagh Road and A27 Tandragee Road

    Shepherds Way & Tandragee Road Roundabout - Diversion 

    Diversion 1: A1 Newry by-pass, A27 Newry by-pass, A27 Tandragee Road, A1 Tandragee Road, B114 Tannyoky Road, A27 Newry Road, A27 Church Street, A27 Chapel Street, B114 Meeting Street, B2 Ballyvally Road, A28Gosford Road, A28 Armagh Road 

    Diversion 2: A28 Armagh Road, A1 Armagh Road, A27 Tandragee Road

    The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions. 

    Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday 11 September 2026, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
