Kimmins announces £550,000 road improvement scheme for Castlehill Road, Belfast
Date published:
Infrastructure Minister, Liz Kimmins, has announced that a £550,000 road improvement scheme on Castlehill Road, Belfast will commence on Tuesday 6 May 2025.

The scheme will resurface both the carriageway and footways on Castlehill Road, from its junction with Upper Newtownards Road to Massey Avenue, while the granite kerbing will be retained to preserve the streetscape character of the road.
Minister Kimmins said:
“This substantial investment of £550,000 for East Belfast will significantly improve the structural integrity and surface quality of the road, enhancing safety and accessibility for all who travel through the area, delivering real benefits for local residents and businesses.
“The investment underlines my commitment to ensuring our road network remains safe, resilient and well-connected to support our communities and the wider economy. I would like to thank local residents, businesses and commuters in advance for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are carried out.”
To facilitate the works safely, a one-way road closure will be implemented for the duration of the work, allowing traffic to continue to flow from Upper Newtownards Road towards Massey Avenue. A signed diversion route will be in place via Massey Avenue, Belmont Road and Hawthornden Way for those travelling in the opposite direction. Access for residents will be maintained throughout the works.
The Department for Infrastructure has carefully programmed the works and associated traffic management arrangements to minimise disruption as far as possible. Road users are advised to expect some delays and to allow additional time for their journeys.
The works are expected to take approximately 10 weeks to complete, with completion anticipated by Friday 11 July 2025.
The planned dates for the scheme are subject to favourable weather conditions and operational progress. Any changes to the programme will be publicised in advance on TrafficWatchni
