    Date published: 21 July 2022

A £410,000 carriageway and footway resurfacing scheme on Loughinisland Road through Loughinisland village will commence on Monday 25 July 2022.

The resurfacing scheme will involve the asphalt resurfacing of a 1.4 kilometre stretch of the Loughinisland Road from its junction with the Drumgooland Road to the junction to the rear of Brennan’s Garage. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those who travel through the village and is expected to completed by Friday 9 September 2022.

To facilitate the delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement weekday road closures. From Monday 25 July 2022 to Friday 26 August 2022 the closure will be between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm and from Monday 29 August to Friday 9 September the closure will be between the hours of 9.00 am and 4.00 pm. The road will be open over the weekends.

During these times a signed diversionary route via A24 Newcastle Road, C388 Drumaness Road, C288 Crawfordstown Rd and vice versa will be in place.

Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions all work will be completed by 9 September 2022, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.

All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
