A £250,000 resurfacing scheme on the A49 Saintfield Road will commence on Sunday 7 February.
The resurfacing scheme, which stretches some 1200 metres in a southerly direction from Plantation Road towards Ballynahinch, will deliver significant benefits for road users and should be fully completed by 5 March 2021.
To facilitate the works it will be necessary to implement a series of road closures for the duration of the works as follows:
- A full road closure will in place on Sunday 7 February from 8.00 am until 6.00 pm.
- An extended full weekend road closure will then be in place from Saturday 13 February at 7.00 am until Monday 15 February at 4.30 pm.
- This will be followed by weekday off-peak road closures, from Tuesday 16 February until Friday 5 March between the hours of 9.30 am and 4.30 pm.
During the times when the road closures are operational, a diversionary route will be in place using A49 Magheraknock Road - Lisburn Road – Lisburn Street - Ballynahinch Road - Glebe Road – Upper Ballynahinch Road – Ballynahinch Road - Young Street – A49 Union Bridge – A1 Queens Rd – A49 Union Bridge – A49 Sloan Street – A49 Saintfield Road Roundabout - A49 Saintfield Road to accommodate traffic in both directions.
The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience. However road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather conditions all work will be completed by 5 March and the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
