Resurfacing scheme for Lower Newtown Road, Meigh

Date published: 15 June 2020

The Lower Newtown Road, Meigh will benefit from a £200,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme which is due to commence on Wednesday 24 June 2020.

Resurfacing work

The resurfacing work will extend a distance of 830 metres from its junction with Low Road towards Dublin Road. Delays are possible and we will be grateful for the patience of road users while we complete this work.

To facilitate the works it will be necessary to operate a daily weekday road closure (Monday to Friday) between the hours of 8.00 am and 6.00 pm from Wednesday 24 June until Friday 10 July.  A signed diversion will be in place via Dublin Road, Newry By Pass, Forkhill Road, Low Road and vice versa. Access for residents will be maintained and road closures will only be in place when work is ongoing.

The road will be open to traffic in the evenings during the week and all day Saturday and Sunday.

The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure.

Completion of the scheme by 10 July 2020 is dependent on favourable weather conditions however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.  All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
