    Date published: 6 November 2023

A resurfacing scheme on A28 Carnbane Way, Belfast Road and Damolly Roundabout, Newry will commence on Monday 6 November 2023.

    Road resurfacing

The improvement works include full resurfacing of the carriageway which will extend from the junction of A28 Carnbane Way with Cloghanramer Road East towards Damolly Roundabout and 750 metres North towards the A1, finishing at H&P Business Park.

In order to complete the works safely and in the shortest duration as possible, a series of road closures will be in place as follows:

    Carnbane Way and Damolly Roundabout

    • Night time closure from Monday 6 November 7:00 pm to 6:00 am for five consecutive nights
    • Sunday closures 12 and 19 November 8:00 am to 6:00 pm

An alternative route for light vehicles will be signed and diverted as follows: A1 Newry Bypass - A27 Shepherds Way – A27 Tandragee Road – A27 Armagh Road – A28 Downshire Road and vice versa.

Heavy goods vehicles travelling from the A1 Newry Bypass towards Warrenpoint will be signposted via A1 Newry Bypass - A2 Dublin Road and vice versa.

    A28 Belfast Road

    • Road Closed from Monday 13 November 9:30 am to 4:30 pm weekdays for two weeks

An alternative route will be signed with traffic being diverted as follows: A1 Newry Bypass - A27 Shepherds Way – A27 Tandragee Road – A28 Carnbane Way and vice versa.

Access will be provided to emergency services and to all affected properties throughout the works, however a short delay may be experienced during the works in order to clear safe passage.

The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. The Department has assessed these works in light of the recent flooding experienced in Newry City Centre and surrounding areas and has decided to continue with the planned resurfacing work as it will not impact on any recovery operation in Newry. Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey.

Completion of the work by 27 November 2023 is dependent on favourable weather conditions. The Department will keep the public informed of any change. All work will be carried out in line with current public health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
