The publication is produced by the DVA Statistics Branch of the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), and contains summary volumes on the vehicle, driver, and theory tests conducted by the DfI’s Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA).

The key points in the report are:

Vehicle Testing

In November 2022, the DVA conducted 90,571 full vehicle tests, the highest recorded monthly total in this series. This figure is 39% (25,544) above the five year November average (65,027).

Private Cars accounted for 84% (75,661) of all full tests conducted in November 2022.

The DVA received 72,002 applications for a full vehicle test during November 2022.

Driving Practical Testing

In November 2022, the DVA received 6,747 applications for a driving test.

The DVA conducted 6,454 driving tests in November 2022, which is 36% higher than the five year November average (4,738).

Private cars accounted for 82% (5,304) of all driving tests conducted in November 2022.

Driver Theory Testing

The DVA received 8,943 applications for a theory test during November 2022.

The DVA conducted 8,221 theory tests in November 2022, 28% higher than the five year November average (6,438).

Private cars accounted for 85% (6,950) of all theory tests conducted in November 2022.

  1. This is the twenty-seventh edition of the publication ‘DVA Monthly Tests Conducted Statistics’, to November 2022. 
  2. The release presents statistics on vehicle, driver, and theory tests conducted during November 2022, together with trend series over the previous seven financial years. 
  3. We source vehicle and driver data from administrative data sources within the DVA, whilst DVSA supply theory-testing data. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) took over the contract for theory testing from Pearson on 4 September 2021.
  4. ‘DVA Monthly Tests Conducted Statistics’ is published every month at pre-announced release dates, which are available from GOV.UK
