Please note that DVA services were impacted by industrial strike action on 22nd September 2023 and 18th January 2024, so testing volumes for these months are lower than would have been the case had these been routine working days.  

Vehicle Testing

In February 2024, the DVA conducted 84,564 full vehicle tests, which is 31% (19,900) above the five-year February average (64,664) and the second highest February figure in the series, from 2014/15.

The DVA has delivered 1,041,034 vehicle tests in this financial year to date, comprising 894,338 full vehicle tests and 146,696 retests.

Private cars accounted for 82% (69,529) of all full vehicle tests conducted this month.

The DVA received 91,980 applications for a full vehicle test during February 2024.

Driving Practical Testing

The DVA conducted 5,216 driver tests in February 2024, 31% (1,225) above the five-year February average (3,991) and the second highest February figure on record since 2014/15.

The DVA has delivered 57,951 driver tests in this financial year to date.

Private cars accounted for 83% (4,326) of driver tests conducted in February 2024.

The DVA received 5,803 applications for a driving test in February 2024.

Driver Theory Testing

During February 2024, the DVA conducted 7,897 theory tests, 63% (3,060) above the five-year February average (4,837) and the highest February figure in the series.

The DVA has delivered 81,524 theory tests in this financial year to date.

Private cars accounted for 85% (6,721) of theory tests conducted this month.

In February 2024, the DVA received 9,343 applications for a theory test.

  2. The release presents statistics on vehicle, driver, and theory tests conducted during February 2024, together with trend series over the previous nine financial years. 
  3. We source vehicle and driver data from administrative data sources within the DVA, whilst DVSA supply theory-testing data. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) took over the contract for theory testing from Pearson on 4 September 2021.
