Date published: 03 May 2018

A £230,000 road improvement scheme on the C272 Carrickmannon Road and C367 Church Hill, Ballygowan is due to commence on Tuesday 8 May 2018.

Raking whilst resurfacing a footway

The resurfacing scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on a 0.85km section of this important ‘C class’ road in Ballygowan.  Work is expected to be completed by the end of May.

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors it will be necessary to operate temporary traffic signals and road closures during the course of the improvements.

Phase 1 of the scheme will include only Carrickmannon Road from its junction with Moss Road towards Bog Road junction.  Traffic seeking access to Carrickmannon Road will be diverted via Moss Road, Ballybunden Road, Balloo Hamlet, Saintfield Road, Kilcarn Road and Carrickmannon Road.

Phase 2 of the scheme will include only Church Hill from the Comber Road Roundabout to its junction with Moss Road.  Further details of the diversion route will be published at a later date.

Local access will be maintained and all diversions and restrictions will be clearly signposted.

The planned dates for the scheme are subject to favourable weather conditions and the Department will keep the public informed of any change.

The works operations and traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
