£176,000 road resurfacing scheme on Ormeau Road, Belfast

Date published: 27 September 2018

A £176,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on a section of the Ormeau Road, Belfast is to commence on Monday 1 October 2018.

Lane closure during resurfacing work

The Ormeau Road scheme, from the junction with Annadale Avenue to the junction with Drumkeen Manor, will greatly improve the surface quality of the carriageway.

Work will be carried out over five consecutive nights.  A one way lane closure will be in place between 8.00 pm and 10.00 pm to accommodate country bound traffic, however, the road will be closed to city bound traffic during these hours with a full closure for all traffic in operation between 10.00 pm and 6.00 am.

Signed diversionary routes will be operational during these times as follows:

  • Citybound – via A55, Cregagh Road, Mount Merrion Avenue, Knockbreda Road, Rosetta Park and Ormeau Road;
  • Countrybound – via Ormeau Road, Knockbreda Road, Mount Merrion Avenue, Cregagh Road, A55 and Ormeau Road.

The dates and duration of the road closures will be dependant on the progress of the scheme and on favourable weather conditions. In order to help ensure the safety of road users and road workers the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and follow the signed diversionary routes when required.

Whilst the Department for Infrastructure has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements to minimise the impact on the travelling public, motorists should expect some delay and allow additional time when planning their journey.
