A £151,000 road improvement scheme on the A25 Strangford Road, Downpatrick is due to commence on Monday 4 September 2017.

The resurfacing scheme, which will include drainage works, will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of a 1.1 kilometre stretch of the A25 Strangford Road from the Saul Mills Road junction in the Downpatrick direction. It is due for completion by 6 October.

To facilitate the works a temporary road closure will be in place between 9.00 am and 4.30 pm daily from Monday 4 September to Friday 6 October. The road will remain open overnight and at weekends.

The diversion route will be signed with traffic being diverted via Ardglass and Strangford using A25 Strangford Road/New Bridge Street/Church Street, Irish Street/Stream Street, B1 Killough Road/Ardglass Road/Downpatrick Road, A2 Strangford Road/Ardglass Road and A25 Downpatrick Road/Strangford Road.

The works operations and traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.

The Department would particularly appeal to users of the Strangford Ferry service to allow additional time for their journey.

The planned dates for the scheme are subject to favourable weather conditions and the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
