Minister Kimmins launches consultation on new Inclusive Mobility Framework
Date published:
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins is encouraging people to have their say on proposals to create a more accessible and inclusive transport system.
The public consultation opening today seeks views on Moving Together: An Inclusive Mobility Framework. The development of the Framework fulfils a commitment contained within Transport Strategy 2035 to develop an inclusive transport strategy focused primarily on the needs of older, d/Deaf and disabled people. It translates the high-level ambitions of Transport Strategy 2035 into a strategic framework designed to improve mobility, accessibility and inclusion for older, d/Deaf and disabled people.
The proposed Framework sets out a vision for a transport system and public realm that enables people to travel safely, confidently, independently and with dignity. It recognises that accessible mobility is essential for accessing employment, education, healthcare, social opportunities and community life.
The consultation presents a series of principles, objectives and actions aimed at removing barriers to mobility and embedding accessibility and inclusion across the Department's policies, programmes and investment decisions.
Launching the consultation, Minister Kimmins said:
"Accessible and inclusive transport is essential to building a fair and connected society. Everyone should be able to travel safely and confidently to the places and services that matter to them.
"For many older, d/Deaf and disabled people, barriers still exist which can make everyday journeys difficult, stressful or, in some cases, impossible. These barriers can affect independence, wellbeing and opportunities to participate fully in community life.
"The Moving Together Framework sets out our proposed approach to improving accessibility and inclusion across transport and the wider built environment. It has been informed by engagement with representative organisations and other stakeholders.
"While the Framework identifies a range of actions we can take, it is important that we hear directly from those who use our transport networks and public spaces every day. I would encourage individuals, community groups and representative organisations with an interest in accessibility and inclusion to take part in this consultation and share their views."
The consultation will run until 5.00pm on 23 December 2026 and the Department welcomes views from all interested parties.
