The scheme will install a total of 32 new street lighting columns with new LED lights.

    Minister Mallon said:

“I have made clear my commitment to address the issues which matter most to the people of Northern Ireland. Street lighting services are crucial in ensuring those driving, cycling and walking can do so safely within their communities.

“This investment provides new LED technology along Castlewellan Main Street. It is important that adequate street lighting not only improves the quality of lighting but is more energy efficient given my commitment to climate action.”

Work will begin on Phase 1 Monday 23 March and will continue until Thursday 9 April, while work on Phase 2 will be completed between Monday 20 April and Monday 11 May.

Work will cease for Easter from Thursday 9 April and will recommence on Monday 20 April.

During the dates when work is scheduled it will be necessary to implement Traffic Management between 9.30 am and 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm Monday to Friday.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimize inconvenience, however, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.

In order to help ensure the safety of road users and road workers, the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to drive with extra care when travelling in the vicinity of the works.

Completion of the work by 11 May will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and on favorable weather conditions, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any changes.
