Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £420,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the A6 Glenshane Road, Curran will commence on Monday 27 July 2026.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £420,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the A6 Glenshane Road, Curran will commence on Monday 27 July 2026.

The resurfacing scheme will extend for approximately 1km between the Knockloughrim Link Road and Lurganagoose Road junctions.

    Minister Kimmins said:

“This is a substantial investment for the A6 trunk route which will deliver significant benefits for road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.  I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

A lane closure with diversionary measures will be in place throughout the works. Magherafelt & Belfast bound traffic will be diverted along Knockloughrim Link Road, Hillhead Road and A6 Dual Carriageway.

A convoy traffic management system will be in operation for Maghera & Derry bound traffic. The works site will be subject to a mandatory 40mph speed limit restriction and overtaking will be prohibited for the duration of the works.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience. However, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access throughout the scheme, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday 21 August 2026, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
