    Date published: 22 May 2025

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £223,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on B175 Spa Road, Ballynahinch will commence on Monday 26 May 2025.

The 550-metre resurfacing scheme will extend from the junction of the Grove Road to the 30mph sign.

    Minister Kimmins said:

“This substantial investment of £223,000 for Spa will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users who travel through this area and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the scheme, it will be necessary to implement weekday lane closures to facilitate drainage and kerbing works from Monday 26 May 2025 until Friday 30 May 2025, between the hours of 9.00am and 17.00pm.

In addition, a full road closure will be required to facilitate carriageway re-surfacing works. These closures will be in place from Monday 2 June until Friday 20 June, daily from 9.00 am to 16.30 pm. The road will be open over-night and weekends.

During these closures, periods of closure a diversion will be in place via:

Diversion 1: B0175 Spa Road, A0024 Drumaness Road, A0024 Newcastle Road, C0290 Main Street, C0290 Demesne Road, B0175 Edendarriff Road, B0175 Dunmore Road.

Diversion 2: U0119 Grove Road, U0167 Grove Road, B0007 Dromore Road, B0007 Dromore Street, A0024 Dromore Street, A0024 High Street, A0024 Church Street, A0024 Church Road.

The Department has carefully programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience. However, whilst steps have been taken to accommodate local access for residents and local bus services, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works. Road users are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works are anticipated to be complete by Friday 20 June 2025. The Department will however keep the public informed of any change.
