A £500,000 bridge maintenance scheme is due to commence on Lady Brooke Bridge, approximately three miles from Derrylin, on Monday 10 August 2020.

Lady Brooke Bridge is a reinforced concrete structure and spans a total of 165 metres over a section of upper Lough Erne. In order to extend its life, the existing structure requires essential and extensive concrete and reinforced steel repairs to the bridge deck, columns and piers.

The scheme is planned to be delivered on a phased basis:

  • Phase 1, replacement of the bridge waterproofing membrane, carriageway resurfacing and drainage improvements is programmed for August 2020
  • Phase 2, concrete repairs to the bridge deck, columns and piers is programmed during the summer period of 2021

To facilitate the works on Phase 1 it will be necessary to close the B127 Newbridge Road for two weeks from 9.30 am on Monday 10 August to 5.00 pm on Monday 24 August between Lisnaskea and Derrylin.

During the road closure traffic a two way diversion will operate via A509 Derrylin Road / Wellington Road Enniskillen / A4 Belfast Road.  All diversionary routes will be clearly signed and access on the Newbridge Road will be maintained for local residential and business traffic.

The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public.  Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the works.

Completion of Phase 1 by 30 August 2020 will be dependent on favorable weather conditions however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.  All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
