Ballynameen Bridge reopens to traffic

The Ballynameen Bridge, Claudy is scheduled to reopen to traffic on 31 October.
The bridge suffered significant damage in the August 2017 floods and has undergone major reconstruction and renovation at a cost in the region of £800,000.
Work involved partial demolition and full reconstruction of two spans of the bridge and the spandrel and parapet walls. The reconstruction also includes widening the carriageway and footway along the length of the bridge.
One lane of the bridge will now be opened from 31 October to two way traffic flow under a temporary traffic signal control system. Some completion works will still be ongoing and road users are asked to respect the signals and drive with due care and attention.
It is anticipated that the bridge will reopen to normal two-way traffic before the end of November.
The Department would like to thank the public for their patience during the bridge closure and apologise for the inconvenience to the local community.

- To help with disruption during the closure a temporary footbridge was provided for pedestrian access and to carry utility services during the construction phase.
