The Newry Inner City Greenway aims to improve walking, wheeling and cycling connections through Newry city centre, linking existing active travel infrastructure, neighbourhoods, businesses, community facilities, public transport and visitor destinations.
We are seeking local knowledge and feedback to help inform the assessment of route options and support the identification of a preferred route for the Newry Inner City Greenway.
We would like your help to better understand:
- What works well today
- What could be improved
- Important parking and access requirements
- Traffic and safety concerns
- Opportunities for walking, wheeling and cycling
Scheme Objectives
The objectives of the Newry Inner City Greenway are:
- Connectivity
Provide a continuous, direct active travel corridor through Newry City Centre that closes a missing link in the active travel network and strengthens connections between the Carlingford Lough Greenway and the Newry Canal Towpath.
- Inclusivity
Create a high-quality, attractive and accessible active travel route that is safe and intuitive for users of all ages and abilities.
- Health and Wellbeing
Encourage everyday walking, wheeling and cycling by providing a pleasant, welcoming route that supports healthier lifestyles and enhances user wellbeing.
- The Environment
Enhance the urban environment through the delivery of infrastructure that supports a resilient, sustainable transport system.
