Using a Mobile Phone While Driving, Consultation on Changing the Law - Screening form

The purpose of this proposal is to widen the scope of the existing mobile phone offence to include any use of a hand-held mobile phone or interactive communication device while driving. If implemented, these changes will mean that the mobile phone offence will be triggered whenever a driver holds and uses a hand-held mobile phone or ‘similar device’ for any purpose while driving.

Note: For the purposes of this screening document ‘similar device’ means a hand-held device capable of interactive communication.
