  • Use of Body Worn Video Devices by DVA Enforcement Officers - screening form

    Topics:
    • Road users,
    • Driver & Vehicle Agency

    Date published: 19 February 2019

The main objective for using Body Worn Video (BWV) devices is to provide greater quality of evidence to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) in respect of non-compliance within the Taxi, Bus and HGV industries.

    This video evidence will also:-

    • Address health & safety concerns regarding personal threats while working in a public facing environment – as enforcement officers can activate the camera when threatened (whether physically or verbally) with the footage used for any subsequent prosecution etc.
    • Reduce the escalation of complaints and accusations against DVA Enforcement Officers - false allegations can be immediately refuted and the overall conduct between the parties involved improved, reducing the likelihood of complaints.
    • Raise standards of service – with enforcement officers aware that proceedings are being recorded they will behave in a more professional, accountable and transparent manner.
    • Increase the number of early guilty pleas – as defendants realise their offences have been clearly captured on recordings; and
    • Reduce the amount of time spent on paperwork / in court – as offences are clearly identifiable and defendants less likely to contest the charges.
