To ultimately protect and save lives by improving safety for children and other passengers during boarding and alighting from buses by consulting on clearer, more targeted and enforceable rules on driver behaviour. A consultation has been carried out to inform future policy development and legislative decisions. The Department is now seeking Executive approval to introduce subordinate legislation prohibiting a driver from overtaking, in the same direction, a stationary bus on a single-carriageway road to which the national speed limit applies (currently 60 mph); Regulations are being drafted
