    The Department for Infrastructure has made a Statutory Rule entitled The Schools (Part-Time 20mph Speed Limit) (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2022 (S.R. 2022 No. 112) which comes into operation on 6 April 2022.

    The effect of the rule is to amend The Schools (Part-Time 20mph Speed Limit) Order (Northern Ireland) 2018 (“the 2018 Order) by the addition of the items contained in the Schedule so that the current speed limit applicable to the lengths of the roads, shall be reduced to 20 miles per hour when a 20 miles per hour limit is indicated by means of a variable message traffic sign in the vicinity of 112 schools in the following areas: Ahoghill, Antrim, Armoy, Augher, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Ballynahinch, Banbridge, Bangor, Belcoo, Belfast , Belleek, Belleeks, Bessbrook, Carrickfergus, Castlewellan, Coleraine, Cookstown, Cranagh, Crumlin, Cullybackey, Donaghadee, Donemana, Dromara, Dungannon, Dungiven, Galbally, Glengormley, Greyabbey, Holywood, Kilrea, Larne, Limavady, Lisburn, Londonderry, Magherafelt, Millisle, Moneymore, Newcastle, Newry, Newtownabbey, Newtownhamilton, Omagh, Portadown, Portrush, Rosslea, Strabane, Tandragee, Tempo, Tyrella, Warrenpoint, and Whitecross.

    The Order also extends the existing part-time 20mph speed limit at Fortwilliam Park, Belfast adjacent to Dominican College and amends the description of the existing part-time 20mph speed limit at Kilrea Road, Upperlands adjacent to Ampertaine Primary School.

    The Order makes minor amendments to The Schools (Part-Time 20mph Speed Limit) Order (Northern Ireland) 2018 by updating and correcting references to Schedule numbers.

    Due to ongoing Covid-19 guidance, a copy of the Rule may be viewed at DfI offices during office hours (Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm) by appointment only.
