Making Careless Driving a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) Offence - Screening form

The purpose of the proposal is to achieve a stronger deterrent to offending and make offenders clear of the risk to road safety. The intended aims and outcomes are as follows:Reduce the number of injury road traffic collisions where the most common principal causation factors relate to the offence of careless driving;Increase the effectiveness of enforcement;Increase take-up of remedial driver training courses among offenders;Reduce the instances of careless driving in the future; andReduce administrative time and cost burdens for the police and public prosecution service.
