    Date published: 21 January 2026

The Department intends to bring forward an amendment to the On-Street Parking Order (Northern Ireland) 2000, to add two additional days - St Patrick’s Day – 17 March (or days in lieu) and New Year’s Day 1 January (or days in lieu) to the list of five non-charge days currently specified in the Order.

The Order applies to certain streets in Belfast, Lisburn and Newry. It also specifies the days when the controlled parking zone charges apply, which are Monday to Saturday each week and which are not operational on Easter Monday, 12 & 13 July and 25 & 26 December (or days in lieu).

This amendment will ensure St. Patrick’s Day and New Year’s Day are on the same footing as other bank holidays and current non-charge days in CPZs.
