Implementing GDL in Northern Ireland will establish a revised training, testing and post-test regime for new drivers and riders. The principal objective of Graduated Driver Licensing is to address the over representation of young and novice drivers in fatal and serious collisions on our roads. The package of measures to be brought forward are designed to provide new drivers with driving experience and skills gradually over time in lower risk environments, aiming to reduce the number of new drivers involved in fatal and serious road collisions in Northern Ireland.
