    Date published: 13 August 2020

Drink drive courses are used as a sentencing option in courts in Northern Ireland. These are voluntary and offenders receive a reduction of up to 25% in the period of disqualification on successful completion. The procedure for the operation of courses is set out in Articles 36 to 39 of the Road Traffic Offenders (Northern Ireland) Order 1996. This guide identifies good practice for course providers and sets out the minimum requirements for course content and delivery standards which must be met.
