The Department for Infrastructure’s Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) is proposing to amend the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 to implement a more effective diesel exhaust emissions test for modern light diesel vehicles (fitted with a Euro 5b or younger engine and first registered from 1 January 2013) using particle number (PN) testers, as an alternative to the required diesel smoke test.
