    Date published: 27 February 2026

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £342,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Halfpenny Gate Road, Lisburn will commence on Monday 2 March 2026.

The resurfacing scheme will extend for approximately 1.94 km from the junction of Meadow Road to the Robbery Road.

    Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said:

“This is a substantial investment for the Lisburn and Castlereagh area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the scheme, it will be necessary to implement road closures (Monday to Friday only) on Halfpenny Gate Road, between Meadow Road and Robbery Road, between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm, from Monday 2 March 2026 until the start of July 2026. During periods of closure a diversion route will be signed along Halfpenny Gate Road, Meadow Road, A3 Lisburn Road, A3 Moira Road, Gravelhill Road, Lurganure Road and Halfpenny Gate Road.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to road users. However, whilst steps have been taken to accommodate local access, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works. Roads users are also asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions it is anticipated that the works will be substantially complete by Friday 10 July 2026. The Department will, however, keep the public informed of any change.
