    Date published: 21 March 2025

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £220,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the B50 Drumquin Road, Castlederg will commence on Thursday 27 March 2025.

The resurfacing scheme will extend along the Drumquin Road for approximately 100 metres from its junction with C672 Garvetagh Road, extending for 455 metres towards Drumquin, and from 20 metres west of its junction with U111 Golan Road extending for a further 190 metres towards Drumquin.

    Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said:

“This is a substantial investment for the Drumquin area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement a road closure between the hours of 8.00 am and 6.00 pm from Thursday 27 March 2025 to Friday 04 April 2025.

During the times of the road closure a diversionary route for Castlederg bound traffic will be signed from the Derry Road Roundabout as follows:

A5 Beltany Road, B165 Melmount Road, B72 Fyffin Road, B72 Strabane Road and B72 Lower Strabane Road. For Omagh bound traffic, the diversion will be the reverse of the route for Castlederg traffic.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access and Translink bus and school services throughout the scheme, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday 04 April 2025, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
