    The Department for Infrastructure has published the formal Notice of Intention to proceed with the first phase of the A5 Western Transport Corridor Scheme and confirmed that the Direction, Vesting and Stopping-up Orders have been made.

    The Statutory Orders cover 55kms of new trunk road from the proposed Junction 8 (south of Strabane) to the proposed Junction 15 near Ballygawley including the westward extension of the existing A4 Dual Carriageway.

    The Orders are available to view and download at: a5wtc; including the maps which form part of the Direction Order and the land plans which form part of the Vesting Order.

    Notes to editors:

    1. Minister O’Dowd made his announcement on 2 October that the first phase of the scheme would proceed. For more information see - O’Dowd announces A5 construction to begin
    2. The Direction Order, formally titled, The Trunk Road T3 (The Trunk Road T3 [Western Transport Corridor – Sion Mills (North) to Ballygawley (West) Order (Northern Ireland) 2024 was made on Thursday 10 October, and will become operative on 13 November.
    3. The Vesting Orders consisting of the Notice of Making a Vesting Order (NMVO) for Sion Mills (North) to Omagh (South) and Omagh (South) to Ballygawley [West] together with the NMVO for mitigation measures were made on 15 October and the operative date will be 25 November 2024.
    4. The Private Accesses on the A5 Western Transport Corridor – Sion Mills (North) to Ballygawley (West) (Stopping-Up) Order (Northern Ireland) 2024 was made on 15 October and will become operative on 25 November 2024.
