Road improvement scheme for Belsize Road, Lisburn

Date published: 02 March 2022

A £377,000 carriageway and footway resurfacing scheme on Belsize Road, Lisburn will commence on Monday 7 March 2022.

Road resurfacing

The resurfacing scheme, which extends from Kirkwoods Road in a southerly direction for 650 metres towards Harmony Hill, will deliver significant benefits for road users and should be completed by 2 September 2022.

Minister Mallon said:

“This significant investment will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents and those who travel through the area.

“As part of the scheme existing footways will also be renewed with lowered kerb and tactile paving provided at all road junctions / crossings points, which will improve safety for pedestrians and in particular vulnerable road users such as children, the elderly, those who are visually impaired and those with a disability.

“I would like to thank the public and local residents in advance for their cooperation and ask that they comply with all temporary traffic restrictions while these much needed works are completed.”

To facilitate the works it will be necessary to implement a series of phased lane and road closures as follows: -

  • Lane closures will be in place Monday to Friday from Monday 7 March until Friday 2 September between the hours of 8.00 am and 6.00 pm.
  • A full road closure will also be required from 27 June until 8 July and from 25 July until 29 July.

During the times when the road closures are operational a signed diversionary route will be in place.  Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply will all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions all work will be completed by 2 September 2022, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.

All work will be carried out in line with current public health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
