    A £435,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Crossgar Road Saintfield will commence on Tuesday 30th August 2022.

    Resurfacing work

    The resurfacing scheme will involve the asphalt resurfacing of a 1.3 kilometre stretch of the Crossgar Road, Saintfield Road from its junction with Main Street/Todd’s Hill to a point 400 metres south-east of the Old Grand Jury Road junction. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those who travelling between Belfast and Downpatrick and is expected to completed by Saturday 17 September 2022.

    To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement night-time road closures commencing nightly from 7.00 pm to 6.00 am on Monday 5 September 2022 through to Saturday 10 September 2022 and from 7.00 pm to 6.00 am nightly from Monday 12 September to Saturday 17 September. The road will be open to traffic overnight on the Saturday and Sunday nights during the closure.

    During these times a signed diversionary route via Crossgar Road, Saintfield Road, Ballynahinch Road, Cahard Road, Vale Road, Ballynahinch Road, Crossgar Road, Belfast Road, Saintfield Road, Ballynahinch Road and Main Street and vice versa will be in place.

    Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.

    The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

    Subject to favourable weather conditions all work will be completed by 17 September 2022, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.

    All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
