Resurfacing scheme for Lonsdale Road, Armagh to commence

A £319,000 resurfacing scheme on Lonsdale Road, Armagh will start on Monday 27 July 2020.

The resurfacing and ancillary work will extend a distance of approximately 900 metres from the Moy Road Roundabout to the Mall Roundabout at the Courthouse junction. The scheme includes resurfacing of the carriageway and upgrading of road drainage. Alterations to the road markings at the Courthouse roundabout will also improve road safety. 

Due to the nature of the scheme it will be necessary to operate the following traffic management:

  • Monday 27 July to Friday 14 August 2020 – daily weekday lane closures under traffic signal control (Monday to Friday) between the hours of 7.00 am and 7.00 pm.
  • Monday 3 August to Saturday 15 August - overnight full road closures from 7.00 pm until 7.00 am
  • Sunday the 2 and Sunday 9 August 2020 24 hour full closures from 7.00 am until 7.00 am

During the full road closures a diversion will be in place with traffic being diverted via the Moy Road, Armagh Road, College Lands Road, Summerisland Road, Ardress Road, Moy Road, Dungannon Road, Charles Street,  Corcrain Road, A3 Northway, Armagh Road, Dobbin Road, Portadown Road and College Hill Road.

The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure.

Completion of the work by 15 August 2020 is dependent on favourable weather conditions however the Department will keep the public informed of any change. All work will be carried out in line with current public health and safety advice with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
