The project involves the resurfacing and improvement works of a length of the existing A3 Portadown Road, Armagh. The site is located 1.4 kilometres east of Portadown Road / Drumman Heights / Killuney Road Roundabout on the outskirts of Armagh and extends 1.3 kilometres eastwards towards Portadown on the existing climbing lane section.

The improvement works includes the widening of the existing carriageway to provide right turning facilities into Tirnascobe Road and other adjacent residential properties fronting the main A3 Portadown Road.

The resurfacing works will deliver significant improvements to both the structural integrity and surface quality of this busy A class road for many years to come whilst the widening will allow safer right turning movements on the climbing lane.

The majority of the work is programmed to be undertaken with a lane closure whilst maintaining one lane in each direction. However, to facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it may be necessary to implement a full road closure which will be during off peak times. During these times a signed diversionary route will be in place via Richhill and Hamiltonsbawn and vice versa.  Local access within the extent of the works will be facilitated.

Subject to favourable weather conditions all work will be completed by Sunday 31 March 2024, however the Department will keep the public informed of any unforeseen changes.

The Department has restricted the traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however, drivers should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time for their journey.

In order to help ensure the safety of road users and road workers the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions, including a 40mph speed limit, and to drive with extra care when travelling in the vicinity of the works.
