£360,000 resurfacing work on the Newry Road, Armagh

Date published: 22 June 2018

A £360,000 resurfacing scheme on the A28 Newry Road, Armagh from Friary Road to Cavanacaw Road is due to commence on 25 June 2018.

Resurfacing work

The works will involve the strengthening and resurfacing of a mile of road along with ancillary works, including new drainage systems where necessary. The scheme will improve road safety and deliver significant benefits to the road network.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of August, before the end of the school holidays.

Temporary traffic controls to facilitate two way traffic and enable access to local businesses will be in place until mid-August whilst the preparatory and drainage works are being carried out. This has been coordinated to also allow installation of a section of gas main.

A number of overnight closures will be required after the July holiday period to allow the safe completion of reconstruction of sections of the carriageway.  Overnight closures will also be required to allow final resurfacing to take place and every effort will be made to plan and coordinate these in such a way as to minimise disruption to local businesses. Further details of the road closures will be provided closer to the time.

The above planned dates are subject to favorable weather conditions and the Department will keep the public informed of any change.

The Department has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public. However motorists should be aware that delays should be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning journeys.
