  • £255,000 resurfacing scheme on A2 Newcastle Road / Annalong Road at Ballymartin

    A £255,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on A2 Newcastle Road / Annalong Road at Ballymartin will commence on Monday 12 March 2018.

    Resurfacing work

    The scheme will deliver significant improvements to both the structural integrity and surface of the road. Work is expected to be completed by Friday 23 March 2018.

    The resurfacing works extend a distance of approximately 1.1 kilomrtre from the Ballykeel Road junction to 140 metres past Seaview Heights (Newcastle side).

    Road closures will operate on the following dates and times:-

    • From 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, Monday 12 March 2018 to Friday 16 March 2018
    • From 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, Tuesday 20 March 2018 to Friday 23 March 2018

    Traffic will be diverted via A2 Annalong Road/Glassdrumman Road/Ballagh Road/Kilkeel Road, B180 Bryansford Road/Hilltown Road, B27 Kilkeel Road, B8 Castlewellan Road/Main Street, B25 Rostrevor Road/Kilbroney Road/Mary Street, A2 Shore Road/Killowen Road/Newry Road/Newry Street/Bridge Street/ Newcastle Street/Newcastle Road/ Main Road (and vice versa). Diversionary routes will be signed and local access for residents will be maintained at all times during the works.

    In order to help ensure the safety of road users and road workers the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to drive with care when travelling through, or in the vicinity, of the works.

    The Department has programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise any inconvenience, however, drivers should expect some delays and are advised to leave additional time when travelling in the area.

    The dates and duration of the works will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and on favourable weather conditions.
