    Date published: 8 October 2026

The preparatory works for the Old Warrenpoint resurfacing scheme from Chapel Hill Road to Greenan Road junction Newry, are now nearing completion, with resurfacing commencing Monday 12 October for four weeks.

To facilitate these works, a temporary one-way traffic system will be in operation. During this period, north bound traffic will be permitted to travel from the Greenan Road junction along the Old Warrenpoint Road towards Greenbank Roundabout. Traffic travelling southbound should use the A2 Warrenpoint dual carriageway and turn left back into the Old Warrenpoint Road at Forest Hills.

The one-way system will be in operation from 8:00am on Monday 12 October to 18:00pm Sunday 8 November 2026 and will remain in place continuously between these dates.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Sunday 8 November 2026, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
