Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has met members of Portadown Armagh Railway Society.
The Minister confirmed his support for the reinstatement of the railway line from Portadown to Armagh, which would support economic growth in Armagh and tackle climate change.
Reinstating the line, with an onward connection to Mullingar, was identified as a medium-term intervention in the All Island Strategic Rail Review to boost connectivity in the North Midlands. During his meeting with the society, the Minister said he was keen to progress the recommendations within the review.
Minister O’Dowd said:
“I look forward to seeing the findings of the ongoing feasibility study that is due to be completed by March 2025. If this more detailed study continues to show the project to be viable, like the earlier studies did, then I will be keen to maintain the momentum and move the project to the next stage.”
