Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has announced a £350,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on A27 Newry Road, Poyntzpass will commence on Monday 10 June 2024.

    Road resurfacing

The resurfacing will extend for approximately 1,800 metres from approximately 600 metres north of junction of the Demoan Road to the junction with the Gambles Road.

To facilitate the works, it will be necessary to implement a road closure (Monday to Friday) between 09.30 am until 16.30 pm from Monday 10 June until Friday 5 July 2024.

The dates and duration of the road closures will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and on favourable weather conditions. To help ensure the safety of road users and road workers the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and follow the signed diversionary route via A27 Church Street, A27 Chapel Street, A27 Tandragee Road, A27 Poyntzpass Road, A27 Auglish Road, A27 Scarva Road, B3 Markethill Road, B3 Moyrourkan Road, B3 Tandragee Road, A28 Gosford Road, A27 Newry by-pass, A1 Newry by-pass and A1 Tandragee Road.

Access for the emergency services and property owners will be maintained however some delays may be experienced.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday 5 July 2024, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
