    Date published: 2 November 2026

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £875,000 carriageway and footway resurfacing scheme on B94 Hillhead Road, Ballyclare will commence on Monday 2 November 2026.

The resurfacing scheme will extend approximately 1.38kilometres from its junction with Mill Road to approximately 20metres north of Hillhead Mews junction.

    The infrastructure minister said:

“This is a substantial investment for the Ballyclare area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users.  The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.  This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of residents, businesses and those travelling in the Ballyclare area.  Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 12 March 2027.  I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

The scheme will be delivered in two phases:

Phase 1 – Monday 2 November 2026 until Wednesday 23 December 2026 – kerbing and footway works between Mill Road junction and Templepatrick Road junction.

Phase 2 – Monday 11 January 2027 until Friday 12 March 2027 – carriageway resurfacing works between Mill Road junction to approximately 20m north of Hillhead Mews junction.

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme, it will be necessary to implement temporary traffic management arrangements as follows:-

Phase 1 – a lane closure for traffic departing Ballyclare along the Hillhead Road, between Mill Road junction and Templepatrick Road junction will be operational from Monday 2 November to Wednesday 23 December between the hours of 09:30am and 16:30pm.

During the lane closure, a signed diversionary route will be in place via:- U59 MILL ROAD – A57 TEMPLEPATRICK ROAD – A57 TEMPLEPATRICK ROAD OFF-SLIP.

Phase 2 – a full road closure will be operational on the Hillhead Road, between Mill Road junction to approximately 20metres north of Hillhead Mews junction and will be operational from Monday 11 January to Friday 12 March between the hours of 09:30am and 16:30pm.

During the road closure, a signed diversionary route will be in place, which will be finalised in due course and published through a further press release at a later date.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access and Translink bus and school services throughout the scheme, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday 12 March 2027, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
