    Date published: 30 July 2026

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £650,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the A55 Belvoir Road, Belfast will commence on Tuesday 11 August 2026.

The scheme will include essential resurfacing works between Newtownbreda Road and Saintfield Road.

    Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said:

“This investment will deliver meaningful benefits for road users and demonstrates my ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving our strategic road network, which is vital for supporting local communities and the regional economy. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and those travelling through the area for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To minimise disruption during peak traffic periods, the resurfacing works will be carried out over a programmed construction period between Tuesday 11 August 2026 and Tuesday 6 October 2026.

For the duration of the scheme traffic management arrangements, including lane and road closures will be in place as follows:

    • From 11 August until 31 August, permanent lane closures will be in operation to facilitate necessary advance civil engineering works.
    • The road will be closed from 7pm on Saturday 22 August until 6am on Monday 24 August and from 7pm on Saturday 29 August until 6am on Monday 31 August.
    • Further closures will be in place from 6am on Sunday 6 September until 6am on Monday 7 September and from 6am on Sunday 13 September until 6am on Monday 14 September .
    • Restrictions will also be in place at other times to ensure the safety of road users and workers.

Where road closures are required, a signed diversion route will be in operation via Purdysburn Road, Beechill Road and Saintfield Road.

Road users travelling in the vicinity of Belvoir Road are advised to allow additional time for their journeys and to follow the signed diversion routes provided.

The Department has carefully planned these works and the associated traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience. However, some delays are unavoidable and road users should allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works. All road users are asked to comply with temporary traffic restrictions put in place for the safety of the public and those working on site.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, it is anticipated that the works will be substantially complete by Tuesday 6 October 2026. The Department will keep the public informed of any significant changes to the programme.
