Date published:
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced a £605,000 resurfacing scheme for the A42 Galgorm Road.
The scheme extends between Sourhill Road roundabout and Grange Road, covering a total distance of 1.3km. The works will commence on Monday 18 May 2026 and are anticipated to last for a duration of 13 weeks.
Minister Kimmins said:
“This is a substantial investment for the Ballymena area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”
To facilitate the safe delivery of the works it will be necessary to implement temporary traffic management arrangements and road closures from Monday 18 May for approximately 13 weeks, as detailed below:
Monday 18 May 2026 to Tuesday 30 June 2026
Temporary traffic management arrangements will be in place between Cambridge Avenue and Grange Road, from 09:15 until 16:30, to facilitate replacement kerbing and footway works.
Wednesday 1 July 2026 to Thursday 9 July 2026
Galgorm Road will be closed between Sourhill Road roundabout and Dans Road to facilitate carriageway resurfacing.
Diversion via Sourhill Road / Dans Road or alternatively via Old Galgorm Road.
Monday 27 July 2026 to Monday 17 August 2026
Galgorm Road will be closed between Dans Road and Grange Road to facilitate carriageway resurfacing.
Diversion via Old Galgorm Road.
The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience. However, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access throughout the scheme, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Monday 17 August 2026; however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
