  • Mallon announces £400,000 resurfacing scheme for Sydenham Bypass

    • Major Roads Programme

    Date published: 2 March 2020

Infrastructure Minister, Nichola Mallon has announced that a £400,000 resurfacing scheme on a section of the Sydenham Bypass, Belfast between Dee Street and George Best Belfast City Airport will commence on Friday 6 March 2020.

    Road resurfacing

The work will take place on the countrybound lanes and is scheduled to be completed over three consecutive weekends; 6 to 9 March, 13 to 16 March and 20 to 23 March.

To facilitate the works it will be necessary to implement a series of weekend road closures between 11.00 pm each Friday night until 4.30 am the following Monday morning. The road will be open at all other times.

Work has been carefully planned to minimise disruption, however some delays can be expected and road users, particularly those travelling to George Best City Airport, are advised to allow extra time for their journey and follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure.

    Minister Mallon said:

"The Sydenham Bypass is a very busy and vital part of the road network. This significant investment of £400,000 will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road and will serve the travelling public for many years to come."

Completion of the work by 23 March is subject to favourable weather conditions, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
