Date published:
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £750,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the B73 Battery Road, Ardboe will commence on Monday 19 October 2026.
The resurfacing scheme will extend for approximately 3.2km from No.44 Battery Road to the Ardboe Road junction, Moortown.
Minister Kimmins said:
“This is a substantial investment for the Coagh, Ardboe & Moortown areas which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”
To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to split the scheme into phases with full road closures in operation throughout. Details of the phases, road closures and diversion routes are:
- Drainage works – Drumconvis Road to Drumenny Road - Monday 19 October to Friday 6 November
Traffic will be diverted in Coagh along the Ballinderry Road and Drumenny Road and vice versa.
- Phase 1 resurfacing – Drumenny Road to Ardboe Road - Monday 9 November to Friday 27 November. Works restricted to between 9.30am and 4.30pm each weekday
Traffic from Coagh travelling to Moortown will be diverted along the Drumenny Road, Mullanahoe Road, Kilmascally Road and Ardboe Road.

Traffic from Moortown and travelling to Ardboe and Coagh will be diverted along Ardboe Road, Kilmascally Road, Mullanahoe Road and Drumenny Road.
- Phase 2 resurfacing – Drumenny Road staggered junction - Sunday 15, Sunday 22 and Sunday 29 November
Various diversions will be in operation along many roads given the complexity of resurfacing this junction. This includes Urbal Road, Ballynargan Road, Coagh Road, Ballymaguire Road, Mullanahoe Road, Kinrush Road, Annaghmore Road, Kinturk Road and Mullan Road.
- Phase 3 resurfacing - Drumconvis Road to Drumenny Road - Monday 30 November to Wednesday 23 December
Traffic will be diverted in Coagh along the Ballinderry Road and Drumenny Road and vice versa.
The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience. However, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access throughout the scheme, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and traffic signs.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Wednesday 23 December 2026, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
